Azul translates 4 million words into sign language

Brazilian airline Azul, an affiliate company of Aberje, is offering simultaneous translation service from Portuguese into Brazilian Sign Language (“Libras”) since September last year. In fact, it is the first and only airline in South America to offer this service. So far, more than 4 million words have been translated by Hugo, the 3D interpreter of the page.

The highest rates of translations happened in November and December when almost 2.5 million words were translated from Portuguese to Brazilian Sign Language. “It was clear that there was a repressed demand for customers with hearing impairment who felt more welcomed with the help of Hugo to navigate our site,” says Claudia Fernandes, director of Marketing and Communication at Azul.
