Live session presented research results analyzing reporting frameworks and standards

Report group has just launched the study “The ESG reporting landscape – An overview of the most widely used reporting frameworks and standards_2021_English”]. The report had institutional support from Aberje, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Rede Brasil do Pacto das Nações Unidas, and Value Reporting Foundation (VRF). The work mapped the Brazilian and global scenario of non-financial reporting, analyzing the communication of results of 187 companies eligible for the B3 Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE B3), as well as practices in international publications.

“The objective is to provide an overview of the main frameworks and standards used in these reports so that companies can make the best decision on which guidelines to adopt when communicating their sustainability strategy and performance,” says Estevam Pereira, partner at report.

The results of the study were released in a live on the report group’s YouTube channel. Arturo Rodríguez (VRF), Carlo Linkevieius Pereira (Rede Brasil), Cristiano Oliveira (Suzano), Glaucia Terreo (GRI), Marina Rodrigues (PwC Brasil), Moises Basilio (Grupo EcoRodovias), and Luzia Hirata (Lacan Real Assets) participated in the virtual meeting as panelists.

Among the main frameworks that offer the “how to report” path are Integrated Reporting, by the Value Reporting Foundation, the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), and the Climate Disclosure Standards Board (CDSB). Regarding standards used to define the scope of the reports, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the SASB Standards of the Value Reporting Foundation and the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) stand out.

The study gathered data that help design the non-financial reporting ecosystem, such as:

  • Of the 187 companies analyzed, 110 (58.8%) disclosed reports on the 2020 cycle. The top three industries in publishing were: Energy (16.4%), Financial (10.9%), and Health (9.1%);
  • The frameworks and standards that are most present are: GRI (94.5%), ODS (94.5%), and Global Compact (73.6%). Of the reports that address the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), 26.9% go deeper into the goals;

With the climate crisis in focus, 30.9% of companies support the TCFD and 16.4% mention the SBTi (The Science Based Targets initiative).
